The number of US military deaths in the war in Afghanistan has surpassed two-thousand.
The U.S. Department of Defense reported the landmark death toll on Wednesday following the death of Marine Corporal Taylor J. Baune of Andover, Minnesota in Helmand province.
It said among the dead, one-thousand-577 lost their lives on the battlefield, including 34 women.
The Defense Department also listed the number of injured U.S. soldiers at 16-thousand-402.
