The Bharatiya Janata Party’s State unit elevated Pankaj Singh, son of former party chief Rajnath Singh, to the post of State general secretary.
The move has its backlash as well as three State secretaries of the party has reportedly resigned from their posts opposing the elevation of Pankaj Singh who was also State secretarty till now.
The State general secretary Vindhywasini Kumar said that on the directive of the State party chief Surya Pratap Shahi, State secretary Amit Kumar Singh alias Pankaj Singh has been appointed as state general secretary of the party. Vindhywasini Kumar, State media in-charge Narendra Singh Ranan, Harishchandra Shrivastav, Manish Dixit, Dilip Shrivastav and other have welcomed the decision and claimed this will bolster the youth in the party.
Meanwhile State secretaries Santosh Singh, Daya Shankar Singh (both former LUSU (presidents) and Ashwani Tyagi from Meerut has reportedly resigned form their posts opposing the elevation of Pankaj Singh.
However State party president Surya Pratap Shahi said that he has not received resignation of of any one from party post. He said that if any of the office bearers have any reservation on any issue party leadership will discuss it with them and resolve it.
According to sources Pankaj Singh was an aspirant to contest the assembly election but the leadership could not accomodate him from anywhere. “ In its bid to placate Pankaj and more so to his father Rajnath Singh, the party decided to elevate him” commented a state office bearer. It is the second successive assembly election when BJP leadership despite Pankaj’ desire failed to field him in the fray.
