Samsung takes on iPad, launches Galaxy

Samsung launched its much-awaited Galaxy Tablet to take on the market leader, Apple’s iPad. Though there is no sign of the iPad here in India yet, but with 3G finally taking off this Diwali, Samsung’s tablet does open up a whole new market.

The tablet, the company claims, packs in a lot of features, some of which are missing in Apple’s iPad. It comes with the latest version of Android operating system, the 2.2 Froyo. It has a front and back camera, that is quite handy for video calling.

The tablet has a internal memory of 16 gb, expandable to 32 gb. And it supports Adobe’s Flash 10.1. At Rs. 38,000, Samsung has priced its tablet offering in the same price range as the iPad.

At the moment, the Galaxy will be competing with the Dell’s tablet, Streak, in India. The Streak is priced almost Rs. 30,000, less than Samsung Galaxy. Tablet market in India is likely to see many new entrants in the coming few weeks, and pricing will get more competitive.
