Sunil Chhetri joins Portuguese football club

Indian national Football team captain Sunil Chhetri is now going to don the famous Green and White colours of Sporting Clube de Portugal’s B team, which plays in the Liga de Honra, which is Portuguese second division.

Sporting Lisbon has had a hand in producing national football heroes — Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo.

Sunil Chhetri will initially join Sporting’s reserve team (B team) to get acclimatised to the team’s style of play.

The deal had been arranged by sports management firm, Football One, the football arm of new Wizcraft International Entertainment venture Sports One.

Chhetri is the second footballer from India to play in Europe after India’s legendary Baichung Bhutia signed a deal with English club Bury FC in 1999.
