Shane Watson (90 not out) leads Rajasthan Royals to comprehensive victory over Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League match on Tuesday.
After restricting the host at 125 runs, Rajasthan lost Rahane in the second over. He was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a duck. Skipper Rahul Dravid and Watson added crucial forty eight runs in the chase before Dravid was scalped by Parnell at the score of 14 runs.
Despite losing both the openers, Watson was intact on the crease. Watson got together with Ashok Menaria to guide Rajastha side to a commanding position in the game. Watson hammered 53 runs off just 27 balls to strengthen Royals’ chase against the hosts.
Rajasthan Royals lost Menaria with still 21 runs away from the target. Menaria was caught at the boundary line while attemting to toss over a delivery from Michael Clarke.
After electing to bat first, Pune failed to make the most of the opportunity as Shaun Tait finished with four for 13.
Sourav Ganguly and Michael Clarke put on 30 runs on the board for the first wicket before Tait claimed the host skipper in the sixth over for 14 off 18.
Clarke fell in the next over as Stuart Binny (1-12) trapped him leg before wicket for a paltry 16 off 18. With both the openers back in the hut, Robin Uthappa and Anustup Majumdar struck a 42-run stand for the third wicket.
While Uthappa struggled, debutant Majumdar struck two sixes and a boundary to score 30 off 20. However, Johan Botha (1-25) struck a brilliant yorker to dislodge Majumdar’s stumps in the 12th over.
Uthappa (13) and Angelo Mathews (11) failed to add to the tally as Rajasthan impressed with their work in the field.
Tait picked up his fourth of the innings to oust Mithun Manhas for 11 off nine as Steve Smith remained unbeaten for 18 off 22.
With this win Rajasthan Royals move to fourth in the points table.
