SC stays Lokayukta proceedings against SM Krishna

In a relief for External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, the Supreme Court has stayed criminal proceedings against him in the illegal mining case. An FIR was lodged against Krishna in the Lokayukta court in Karnataka.

The former CM had approached the SC last week. He is accused of illegally de-reserving large forest areas for mining in Bellary when he was the chief minister between 1999 and 2004.

Krishna is also alleged to have allowed 10 private companies to mine in the area, despite opposition from the then state forests minister and secretary of the forests department.
