Alistair Pereira, whose bail in the 2006 hit-and-run case was cancelled by the Supreme Court, has surrendered at the Sewri court in Mumbai. Seven people were killed after Pereira, driving under the influence of alcohol, mowed down labourers sleeping by the road side.
Pereira will now have to serve his entire sentence of three years of imprisonment. He has served only one month of his sentence.
On January 12, the Supreme Court had upheld the three-year term meted out by the Bombay High Court.
In November 2006, Alistair Pereira, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, lost control over his car and ran over labourers sleeping by the road side. Seven constructions workers were killed and 8 others were injured.
The Supreme Court upholding the Bombay High Court verdict slammed the state government for not appealing against the three-year term, saying it could have asked for a higher sentence.
