One year in power, Jayalalithaa puts out massive ads

As Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa completes her one year of power in the state, her government has launched a massive ad campaign to trumpet its “achievements” as part of its anniversary celebrations.

In what seemed to be the mother of all ad campaigns, the blitz by Jayalalithaa exhausted a substantial amount of tax-payers’ money to advertise her achievements.

The power jacket advertisement of four pages appeared in all national dailies and Tamil newspapers, except in the ones owned by the opposition DMK family members.

The jacket ads run into four pages showing Jayalalithaa’s full-size image on the front while the listings of all her “achievements” as the chief minister on the other three pages.

The ads dwell mainly on the fulfilment of her election promises, including the distribution of free rice, mixer-grinders, gold for mangal-sutras, cows and goats.
