Hazare’s health improving: Doctor

Anna Hazare’s condition has improved and he is recovering after a 12-day fast, Dr Naresh Trehan, director and MD of Medanta – The Medicity said on Monday.

Dr Trehan said the next bulletin with  Hazare’s health will be given at noon.

Hazare (74) rode in a Toyota Innova on Sunday rather than an ambulance to the Gurgaon hospital, despite not having eaten anything for 12 consecutive days.

The hospital’s ambulance, equipped with advanced life-support devices, was moving along Anna Hazare’s motorcade to ensure emergency care was provided without wasting time, if needed.

However, the 40-minute ride from Ramlila Ground to the multi-speciality hospital in Gurgaon was covered smoothly, with the anti-graft crusader waving at his supporters throughout.

Contrary to expectations, Hazare was not taken to either of the general or cardiac Intensive Care Units (ICU) but moved to the patient recovery ward on the 13th floor of the hospital.

Two ICUs had been reserved for him since past two days, in case there was a need.

The doctors took blood samples to check his liver and kidney function and blood sugar, etc., and performed other tests to check his heart condition.

He has also lost a total of about 7.5kg during the fast and weighs about 66kg.

Hazare was kept on coconut water and honey with no glucose drip.

The doctors at the hospital also endorsed the Brahamcharya power that Hazare had talked about on the stage at the Ramlila Ground on Saturday.
