A local court here on Monday dismissed a plea by activist Teesta Setalvad and Amrish Patel seeking access to the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) report on the Gulbarg Society massacre during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The Metropolitan Court however permitted the lawyer of Zakia Jafri to inspect the SIT report that runs into over 25,000 pages. The lawyer can inspect the report for five days beginning tomorrow, as per court orders.
The magistrate also asked the SIT to file an affidavit clarifying whether it has withheld any document from the court or complainant Zakia Jafri, the widow of Congress MP Ehsaan Jafri who was killed in the massacre.
The SIT, which investigated complaints against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in a riot case, had earlier told the court that Teesta Setalvad might tamper with evidence if allowed to inspect original documents of the probe.
