Chidambaram to head EGoM on spectrum allocation

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram would head the empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on vacation of spectrum and auction of spectrum, government sources said on Friday.

The panel will also be reconstituted and will consist of seven members.

According to sources, notification of the seven-member EGoM on telecom would take place later in the day.

The position of EGoM chairman was lying vacant since Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar’s recent resignation citing “controversy surrounding the allocation of 2G spectrum” as the reason.

Pawar had on Monday issued a statement saying that he had sent a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offering to “recuse” himself from the EGoM, which was consequently accepted.
