BJP on Friday held a nationwide Jail Bharo agitation over the issue of inflation.
As part of its protest against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government against the rise in prices of essential commodities and petrol, the party workers gathered at seven spots in the national capital before proceeding towards Jantar Mantar.
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, former party president Rajnath Singh, spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and several other leaders of Delhi gathered at Jantar Mantar and addressed the BJP workers before courting arrest.
Attacking the UPA regime, Jaitley called it the most corrupt government in the Indian history.
BJP president Nitin Gadkari would participate in the agitation in Nagpur, while Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj would lead protests in Bhopal.
The day-long agitation would mark the culmination of party’s Jan Sangarsh campaign that started on June 7.
In the national capital, the BJP protest march badly affected traffic in several areas, particularly around Jantar Mantar.
