Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has started his day-long token fast for a strong Lokpal Bill at Jantar Mantar in Central Delhi.
Earlier, on his way to Jantar Mantar Hazare along with his team members Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and others made a brief stop at Rajghat to pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Before leaving for Jantar Mantar from Noida where he stayed overnight, Hazare said that he will organise a big protest against the “deaf and dumb” government, which, he alleged, was turning a blind eye to whistleblowers who are being targeted while fighting corruption.
Hazare, ahead of his fast to demand justice for slain IPS officer Narender Kumar and a strong law to protect whistleblowers, said many people have sacrificed their lives while fighting corruption.
“We will go to Jantar Mantar and observe a one day fast for the families who have lost their near and dear ones while fighting against corruption and injustice,” he told reporters.
“The government is not listening to the cries of families of people who have died fighting corruption. The government has become insensitive and has not even probed the killings,” he added.
“There will be a big struggle. Then the government will listen. The government came up with MNREGA but these people were killed for trying to improve it,” Hazare said further.
