The trail of dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, accused of killing their teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, The case began today in Ghaziabad court with the examination of three prosecution witnesses.
Three witnesses, including the police photographer who took photos of the crime scene and the fingerprint expert from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, gave their statements to the court today. The next hearing will take place on June 21.
On day one of the trial the statements of the three witnesses have been recorded. Constable Chunni Lal Gautam, the Noida Police photographer who took photographs of the crime scene, told in his statement that there were some blood spots on wall next to the bed where Arushi was found dead. But there were no blood spots on the soft toys and small pillow near the dead body. CBI has claimed Mr Gautam’s testimony indicates dressing up of the crime scene. It also accused Mr Talwar of trying to mislead the investigators by pointing them in the direction of Hemraj.
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed Nupur’s review petition challenging summons issued by a Special CBI Court and warned her of “exemplary costs” for any frivolous litigation.
A bench of justices A K Patnaik and J S Khehar also dismissed Nupur’s plea for further investigations into the crime and dismissed as “infructuous” the bail application moved by her.
In a statement, the couple said, “We are deeply disappointment by the dismissal of our review petition by the honourable Supreme Court of India but we accept it with humility.”
“However, we will defence our honour and that of our dead child Aarushi vigorously in the trial court. We will not rest till out innocence is proved and our honour vindicated and till the real killers are found and brought to book. We believe justice and truth will one day prevail,” they said.
Fourteen-year-old Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit at her Noida residence on the intervening night of May 15 and 16, 2008, while the body of Hemraj was recovered from the terrace of the house the next day.
