26/11 plotter Abu Jundal confirms Pak role: PC

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said that revelations of Abu Jundal, arrested in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, have confirmed the suspicion that the attacks were carried out in an organised manner with state support.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Chidambaram said the contention that the attacks were perpetrated by non-State players was no more valid. “I’m not pin-pointing to any particular agency, but there was state support,” he said.

He said the world had appreciated the restraint and patience that India has shown in tracking down the attackers. “We have been tracking Jundal for a year. Jindal is a pseudonym. He was identified a year ago. We tracked down, found him and apprehended him. We are tracking all the 26 masterminds of the Mumbai attack. Pakistan comes out poorly, while this puts us in good light”, he said.

Mr. Chidambaram revealed that he had received a note from Pakistan Minister Rehman Malik requesting India to share information about Jundal. “We will do that in due course, but I insist that Pakistan keep its promise and give us the voice samples (of the masterminds). Let’s see How Pakistan reacts,” he said.
