Salman Khan seeks support of Pak people for Sarabjit’s release

Bollywood star Salman Khan has come forward to appeal to Pakistan for the release of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who is languishing in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail for the past 22 years.

The actor took to twitter by saying: “Request the to the awam of pakistan, member”s of the press, govt of pakistan, president zardari, a humble request”

It would be the most amazing gesture, to send surabjeet back to his family after 30 years . Hope u support me like its your own cause. B a part of 1 family’s happiness.,” he said.

Sarabjit’s sister, Dalbir Kaur, who has led the campaign for his release in the last few years, held a dharna along with her family at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Thursday.

Showing sympathy towards Sarabjit’s sister, Salman said: “Wanted to tweet this for the longest time, saw a pic of surabjeets sister, it Killed me. Felt real sad for her. Help me help her.”

Making a personal request for the Indian prisoner, the actor tweeted: “Its a personal request to all of u in pakistan to send sarabjeet bak to his family in punjab , hope u find it in your hearts to help.”

Sarabjit’s family claims that he had inadvertently crossed in Pakistan in an inebriated state August 1990 and was arrested there. He hails from Bhikhiwind village along the India-Pakistan border, 280 km from Chandigarh.

He was later identified as Manjit Singh and accused of planting two bombs in Pakistan which claimed 14 lives. He was sentenced to death by Pakistani courts even though his family here claimed that he was completely innocent.
