Sri Rama Rajyam is a remake of old-time classic Lava Kusa, Ramayana is a familiar story for every Indian. But a brief synopsis is being given here for the benefit of everyone. Sri Rama Rajyam is set in the Uttara Kandam of the Ramayana that deals with the story of Lava and Kusha. After Rama (Balakrishna) and Sita (Nayanatara) get back from Lanka, the Kingdom of Ayodhya rejoices and everyone is happy for a while. But Lord Rama is forced to banish Sita from the Kingdom when a washerman (Brahmanandam) questions her ‘pavitratha’.
Sita takes shelter in the Ashram of Maha Rishi Valmiki (Nageswara Rao) and raises her kids Lava and Kusha as normal kids without informing them of their heritage . Lava and Kusha are trained in all the ‘vidyas’ by Valmiki. A series of incidents later, Lord Rama performs the Ashwamedha Yagam for the benefit of the kingdom. The sacred yagam horse wanders through the forest and it is captured by Lava Kusha. A confrontation erupts between the kids and Lakshmana (Srikanth) and when Lakshmana falls, Lord Rama enters the arena.
The fight is prevented by Sita and she reveals her true identity to her kids. Lava and Kusha are re-united with their father, Lord Rama, and Sita unites with her mother Bhoodevi (Roja) and leaves this mortal world.
Sri Rama Rajyam review
Sree Rama Rajyam movie is a typical Bapu’s calligraphy as the legendary director comes with a mythological treat. The best part of Sree Rama Rajyam movie is that the casting just cannot get any better. Nandamuri Balakrishna looks good as Rama. Nayanathara looks perfect as Sita and Akkineni Nageswara Rao is apt for Valmiki.
The women, led by KR Vijaya in Kausalya Devi’s role, are all graceful. Srikanth, as Lakshmana, gets some heavy-duty emoting to do. Vindoo Dara Singh, as Hanuman, too.
Lava, Kusa and Bala Raju are played by talented kids, Brahmanandam as the washerman, Jhansi as his wife, Roja as Bhoodevi, Hema as Mandodari, Murali Mohan as King Janaka and Sudha as his wife all make brief appearances.
Ilayaraja’s music is a big asset and is soul for the film. He provided brilliant background score especially in the emotional scenes. Lyrical values are rich. Cinematography is outstanding. The entire film is a visual grandeur with each and every frame captured greatly. Art work is fantastic. DI and graphics need a special mention. Dialogues by Ramana are good. Bapu has handled the script well and his mark of picturization can be found in each frame. Editing could have been crisp as the run time is almost close to 3 hours. Producer Yalamanchili Sai Babu has spent lavishly on the film.
The production values are on the top notch.
