Vishva-Bharati row: HC issues contempt notice against PM

The Prime Minister must be served contempt notice in the Visva-Bharati urine-drinking punishment shocker as he is the Chancellor of the University, ruled the Calcutta High Court on Friday.

The court added that the notice must be served to Vice Chancellor Sushanta Dutta Gupta, Registrar Mani Mukut Mitra, warden Uma Poddar and state education secretary Bikram Sen.

The ruling came after a PIL was filed by one Tapas Bhanja.

The court has directed them to be present on July 27 in person or through an advocate.

The Calcutta HC had banned corporal punishment in the state before Right to Education came into being.
