Khurshid doesn’t deny Rahul remarks, but says they were misinterpreted

Union law minister Salman Khurshid, who was yet again under fire over his remarks on party general secretary Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday said that he was misqu”My comments were misinterpreted wrongly. They were taken out of context,” said Khurshid in his defence over his remarks following which he was in the eye of political storm.

Khurshid apparently took a U-turn over his statements saying, “I never told the newspaper that the government is directionless’.

The law minister also appealed to read government statements in a positive light, saying that there is no need to create controversy over his statement.

Issuing the clarification, Salman said: “the party is a strength of the government. We want him (Rahul Gandhi) as our leader.”

He also said: “From now on, issues of the party will now be discussed within the party and not with the media.”

Khurshid, in an interview to the Indian Express, has cited lack of “ideological direction” from Rahul Gandhi as the root cause of problems in Congress.
