Police on Sunday put under house arrest several separatist leaders, including chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference.
“(Moderate) Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest at 11.00 am. Shahidul Islam was also put under house arrest,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat told.
The chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was also put under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence. “I was only allowed to take part in the seminar yesterday and have been under house arrest since then,” Mr. Geelani said.
Shabi Shah, executive member of the moderate faction, has also been placed under house arrest.
Police officials refused to comment on the restriction orders on the movement of the separatist leaders.
