Army Chief age row a closed chapter, says Antony

Heaving a sigh of relief that row over Army chief General VK Singh’s age has blown over, Defence Minister AK Antony on Monday called for an “atmosphere of reconciliation” so that everyone could “work together to strengthen national security”.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Asian Security Conference here, he said in the interest of national security, please forget about the issue.

“…Let us bury it and create an atmosphere of reconciliation. Let us cool down tempers,” the defence minister said.

Asked if Gen Singh offered to resign following the Supreme Court refusing to entertain his plea to consider May 10, 1951, as his birth date instead of a year earlier, Antony said the government has full faith in the present chief.
