Social activist Anna Hazare is expected to meet yoga guru Baba Ramdev in Delhi today, a day before his day-long fast against corruption at Jantar Mantar here.
Team Anna termed the Centre’s decision to initiate a CBI investigation into the Coalgate as laughable and an eyewash. Arvind Kejriwal claimed such a probe was meant to give a clean chit to Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh.
“The CBI is under the government. Here the PM is accused. It is laughable, it is a pretence,” he added. Kejriwal iterated his demand for an independent probe by a panel of three “honest retired” judges.
Keeping up the heat on the government, Anna himself and yoga guru Swami Ramdev fired salvos at the PM in the build-up to their joint 24-hour protest fast at Jantar Mantar.
Ramdev said in Delhi that the PM may be personally honest but was not politically honest. Hazare, who was in Ratnagiri as part of his Maharashtra tour to campaign for a strong Lokayukta, remarked that he had lost faith in Singh because of his failure to end corruption.
Ramdev told the media: “The PM does not take responsibility for the actions of his ministers. It is said that the anti-corruption activists are weakening the democratic traditions. It is not us, but the PM himself who is weakening the system by inaction.”
