Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy asked leaders and activists of his YSR Congress Party to gear up for upcoming local body polls in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a meeting of the party’s ad-hoc committee conveners, governing council members and other leaders on Wednesday, he asked them to prepare the rank and file for the elections to local bodies likely to be held soon.
The party has decided to hold sit-ins at district collectorates against Congress government’s “failure” to address the problems of farmers.
Jagan would participate in the protest at one of the district collectorates, party spokesman Ambati Rambabu told reporters.
Hitting out at the state government, Jagan alleged it is not even able to purchase the paddy produced by farmers.
The government has not been able to provide compensation to farmers who were battered by cyclones in quick succession, he claimed.
Jagan also regretted that farmers at some place have announced a ‘crop holiday’ as they have not been able to get adequate price for their produce.
The YSR Congress Party leaders met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and submitted a memorandum to him on farmers’ issues.
